Six Aberystwyth University (AU) overseas doctoral fellowships are available in the Computer Science Department at the end of September 2008. Interested applicants are invited to visit the research department web pages. The following list provides some of the project proposals that fall doctorate in the interest of the four research groups department:
1. Advanced Reasoning
2. Computational Biology
3. Intelligent Robotics
4. Vision, Graphics and Visualization
The scholarships are for a period of three years and will waive the difference between full-time and abroad tuition for full-time UK / EU tuition per year. The scholarships will not support part-time studies. Based on the fees for the academic year 2008-2009 (£ 10750 to be confirmed), then the value of the scholarship is £ 7450 for this year.
Please note that Overseas PhD Scholarship does not provide funds for living expenses (ie alimony), and successful applicants will be required to pay full-time UK / EU fees for the duration of the award (£ 3300 for the 2008-2009 Academic Session – to be confirmed).
Applicants must have a first class or upper-second-class degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or the physical sciences. It may be useful to contact the Postgraduate Admissions Office for advice on the comparability of their qualifications.
To apply for scholarships for doctoral studies overseas, the forms can be obtained by visiting the Admissions Office Postgraduate UWA website: http://www.aber.ac.uk/pga/. Please follow the ‘Application’ link, and use research programmes (PhD, MPhil and LLM of research) forms.
When you apply:
- According to the application form “Section 4: Proposed studies at Aberystwyth ‘Please give a short (maximum of 1000 words) of the proposed research project. This may relate directly to one of the projects of the example provided by the web links above, or in a project of your choice. (The request for a short proposal applies to this scholarship program doctoral overseas, and not a standard application Computer Studies.)
- According to the application form “Section 5: Funding and Scholarships’ please check the ‘departmental funding (if available)” box and type the reference number: CS211.
- Please make sure that one of your references is a scholar of the institution where you studied.
- Return the application form at the Postgraduate Admissions Office by March 1, 2008.
We will consider all candidates and select a short list by early May. The three scholarships will be awarded to the best candidate based on the following criteria: relevance of the proposed research for the department of research interests and academic quality of the applicant. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
