Postdoctoral Position in Drosophila Aging, Nutrition and Metabolism

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. William Ja at The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Florida. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary effort to investigate genetic pathways involved with aging and metabolism using fruit fly (Drosophila) and cell culture models. Initially, studies will focus on genetic and biochemical approaches to characterize fly genes that modulate longevity in response to nutrition.

Long-term projects include the application of large-scale methods (metabolomics, lipidomics) on Drosophila mutants, and the investigation of small molecule-modulators of metabolic function in cell culture models. Candidates should have experience in a subset of fields including biochemistry, nutrigenomics, and cell biology, as well as knowledge of metabolic pathways and their analysis (nutritional or mitochondrial metabolism). Previous experience with Drosophila genetics and/or cell culture is desirable, but not essential.

Ideal candidates will be capable of establishing independent research projects and work well with scientific colleagues from diverse backgrounds. To apply: Submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and contact information for at least two references to Alexandra James, AJames@scripps.edu, with the subject line: “Postdoctoral Position Ja Lab”.
