Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research assistant to work under the supervision of Dr Martin Smith on a project concerned with the investigation of C-HO hydrogen bonds as structural and catalytic elements. This EPSRC and NSF funded post is available for a period of one year in the first instance with the possibility of renewal for a further two years.
The project involves the synthesis and investigation of folded structures, elucidation of the non-covalent interactions that stabilize them, and exploitation of these materials in the development of catalytic entities.
Applicants should either already have a PhD in a relevant subject area, or have submitted their thesis prior to taking up the post. The applicant should have experience in organic synthesis and catalysis, and detailed knowledge of 2D NMR techniques for elucidating solution conformation and probing non-covalent interactions. Details of the groups research can be found at: http://msmith.chem.ox.ac.uk/
The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TA.
