We are one of 15 centres within the  Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our  headquarters are in Bogor, Indonesia, and we have offices in Asia,  Africa and South America.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nCIFOR is looking for a visionary <strong>Senior Scientist, Markets of Forest Products and Services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the leadership of the programme director, the Senior Scientist  will develop, facilitate and manage research projects at various  locations in the world. The Senior Scientist will work closely with  relevant research staff across our programmes and research domains.<\/p>\n<p>Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in an annual performance contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Duties and responsibilities <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participate primarily in three of CIFOR\u2019s research domains:\n<ul>\n<li>trade and investment<\/li>\n<li>sustainable management of tropical production forests<\/li>\n<li>enhancing the role of forests in mitigating<strong> <\/strong>climate change;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Lead research on how markets (for example, for palm oil, timber  and carbon) work and affect decision making on land use and forest  management; on their impacts in the provision of forest goods and  services and people\u2019s livelihoods; and associated policy options for  enhancing such markets to the benefit of forests and the poor;<\/li>\n<li>Help facilitate and identify strategic opportunities in the above domains;<\/li>\n<li>Provide scientific leadership and management, and undertake appropriate research;<\/li>\n<li>Develop and maintain partnerships;<\/li>\n<li>Develop and maintain donor relations;<\/li>\n<li>Support capacity building initiatives and staff development, and encourage continuous improvement and learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Requirements<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Education, experience and technical skills and competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD in an appropriate discipline (i.e. forestry, natural resources,  economics or social sciences), with excellent knowledge and  understanding of forest-related markets, value chains, policy  instruments and investment decision making in forests and agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Eight years of relevant postdoctoral experience with experience in collaborative research<\/li>\n<li>Publications record, especially in peer-reviewed publications<\/li>\n<li>Experience in resource mobilisation, fund raising and proposal development and writing<\/li>\n<li>Strong project management skills<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English required, proficiency in other international languages preferred<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong managerial and organisational skills<\/li>\n<li>Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experienced  in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams<\/li>\n<li>Proven facilitation and teambuilding capacity<\/li>\n<li>Values the sharing of information and continuous improvement in  a cooperative atmosphere of constructive evaluation and learning, and  committed to staff development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Terms and conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is an internationally recruited position based in Bogor, Indonesia.<\/li>\n<li>CIFOR provides attractive international salary and compensation  package, commensurate with the skills and experience of the candidate.<\/li>\n<li>The initial contract will be for 3 years with possibility of  extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of this  position and available resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application process<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The application deadline is 25 September 2010.<\/li>\n<li>Interested candidates are invited to apply with a letter of interest, CV, and contact information for 3 referees.<\/li>\n<li>We will acknowledge all applications, but we will contact only short-listed applicants.
